dp+ Pick top 11 entries, photo challenge 4

Only 11 entries made it to the judges top 3 picks for the dp+ Pick Award, dp+ photo challenge 4 with theme Celebrating Woman/Women for the month of March. The more number of entries included in this list the more varied the judges picks were. To be included in this ranking means one or more judges included an entry in their top 3 picks. There were 5 judges as before, 2 are part of the dp+ administration and 3 are select members of the group. Each judge picked their top 3 choices from all the entries and scored them based on 4 criteria which include Quality or the technical aspect of the photo (30%), Creativity and Originality (30%), Theme Adaptation (20%) and Overall Impact or Impression (20%). Each also gave their reasons for their picks. A total of 100% per judge is given to a perfect score in all categories per entry. Final perfect score is 500 points with 100 point percentage from each of the 5 judges. The one who gets the highest score wins. So congratulations to the 11 entries who made it to the dp+ top picks and here are their rankings in a reverse order from top 11 to top 1:

  1. I am still very much into the learning stage but it seems that out of 500 possible points that not even getting half is not high results to be winners.
What does this translate to, standards very high, what? Karen E Sharkey

    1. very good observation, Karen. It just means that as varied as the interpretations and the entries were - so too were the judges' choices. There were 5 judges - if each of them chose a different entry for their top 3 picks each - there would be 15 entries on this page. The 11 top entries here means that only 4 entries were included in the top 3 picks of 2 judges. 7 entries were only picked by 1 judge each. Of the 4 entries voted by 2 judges - the winning entry won through judges' scores. It has nothing to do with judges setting very high standard for the entries or giving low scores. It just means that there were too many good entries submitted and the judges were divided in their opinion picking different top 3 picks each that only those that were picked by 2 judges get a higher score and it was through those scores that the winning entry emerged - the one with the highest score. Thanks for your comment, very much appreciated. :)

  2. Thank you. I sure would not want to be a judge with so much talent floating around. It is fun to see the photo through their eyes and their comments, very good learning experience. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Karen Sharkey
